SYLLABUS – AQA (www.aqa.org.uk)
COURSE DETAILS - The AS/A2 course develops the four language skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking) which were practised at GCSE level, but places far greater emphasis on grammatical accuracy, writing and oral fluency. By the end of the course, students should be able to express themselves with confidence on a whole range of issues. At AS level these include: media, popular culture, healthy living/lifestyle, family/relationships. At A2 topics covered include: the environment, the multicultural society, contemporary social issues, cultural topics.
AS UNITS
Fr01 - Listening, Reading, Essay Writing (70% of AS/ 35% of A level)
Fr02 - Speaking (30% of AS/ 15% of A level)
A2 UNITS
Fr03 - Listening, Reading, Essay Writing, Translation (35% of A level)
Fr04 - Speaking (15% of A level)
ASSESSMENT - Students are assessed by a range of methods that include: listening and reading comprehension exercises, essay writing and a 15 minute speaking examination.
VISITS TO FRANCE – Students opting for French at AS/A2 level will have the opportunity to go to Paris and/or the South of France as part of their studies to help them develop their linguistic skills and understanding of French culture and society

Students must have studied GCSE French and preferably achieved at least a grade B.
