General Entry Requirements:
Our level 3 Sixth Form entry requirements are five GCSEs at Grades 9-4 including Maths and English minimum Grade 4. However, please read the course information, which, provides specific details of course content and entry requirements.

Subjects: -
Level 3 - Enter your choices in order of preference for Level 3 courses. Students need to select the equivalent of 3 courses (Triple counts as 3), with 2 reserve options if selecting Level 3 courses. Year 12 are expected to study the equivalent of three subjects. Once we close to applicants on the 6 February the options selected will be reviewed and if required we will be in contact.
Level 2 - just add the course required, eg beauty, finance or fitness. However, please look up all entry requirements for individual subjects as some subjects require specific subjects and grades.
Timetable Blocks- Please read carefully: Level 3 Courses Please select 3 subjects and 2 reserve subjects by placing them in a ranked order/ or a Pathway. Once applications close we will review all subjects requested and may be in contact at this time to discuss your chosen subjects further.
Additional optional qualifications such as Arts Award (Gold),Core Maths, Further Maths and the EPQ are not applied for at the Kent Choice stage further information will be provided in the 6th Form induction if you would like to undertake this course in addition to your core qualifications.

Course Summary
Our Geography A level will excite students’ minds, challenge their perceptions and provide students with access to a rapidly changing world. All core physical and human themes will be examined in addition to a range of skills and fieldwork.
Students will study Physical and Human Geography.
Course Details
Numeracy and Literacy are both further developed throughout the course as well as use of ICT to deliver assignments. Presentation skills will be developed, as will teamwork on field trips.
Field work will be undertaken in environments that are not usually known to the students. Previous field work trips have taken place in Margate, Camber Sands, Canterbury, Eastbourne and Plymouth (where students stayed in university halls, to give an experience of what being at a university might be like).
Further to this A-Level Geography students are encouraged to discuss their possible career paths and options with teaching staff. This allows students to be directed towards relevant university courses or apprenticeship options in geography related workplaces. Students are also directed to the department careers board, where information on various geography related jobs are highlighted
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Component 1: Physical geography Section A: Water and carbon cycles, Section B: Hot deserts OR coastal systems
Section C: Hazards OR ecosystems under stress OR cold environments written exam: 2 hour 30 minutes
Component 2: Human Geography Section A: Global systems and global governance Section B: Changing places
Section C: Contemporary urban environments OR population and the environment OR resource security
Written exam: 2 hour 30 minutes
Component 3: Geographical investigation: Students complete an individual investigation which is based on a question or issue defined and developed around a topic of interest. The investigation takes the form of written 3000-4000-word geographical report
Entry requirements
2 Year Course - Normally 5 GCSE grades 9-4 including English and Mathematics at a minimum Grade 4 and GCSE Geography minimum Grade 4.
Your next steps...
You could take this course to complement other advanced level courses or to prepare for the A2 part of an Advanced GCE, which could lead onto higher education to study geography, other areas of humanities, science or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to geography such as a Town Planner, Environmental Officer or Weather Forecaster. You could also go straight into a job as the AS GCE is a recognised qualification that will help you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for. You could take this course with other advanced level courses such as Travel and Tourism or Health and Social Care, to prepare for higher education in areas of geography, humanities, science or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go on to a job related to geography and work as a Town Planner, Environmental Officer or Weather Forecaster. The course also helps you to develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
