Course Details
Students studying Geography at A Level will learn many skills including how to interpret graphs, read maps, and analyse complex data.
Topics include:
- Water and Carbon Cycles
- Hazards
- Coastal Systems and Landscapes
- Global Systems and Global Governance
- Changing Places
- Contemporary Urban Environments
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment at A Level comprises a range of styles including short answer and extended writing (maximum 20 marks). Students will be examined in two exams (80%) and a geographical investigation (20%). Fieldwork is an essential part of the course with four days in the field. This is a compulsory part of this two-year programme.

Geography A Level is highly valued by universities, due to the range of skills you acquire during the course, as well as the broad subject knowledge. The Russell Group report, names Geography as one of the eight facilitating subjects. Students go on to study subjects including Geography, International Development, Environmental Science, Geology, Civil Engineering and Social Work.
Geography at A Level combines well with a range of subjects including Economics, Business, Geology, Sociology, Maths and the Sciences. Geography students are considered amongst the most employable graduates with very low rates of unemployment.
