Course Summary
Are you considering a career in one of the caring professions? About 3 million people in the UK work in health and social care. In healthcare, this includes jobs such as doctors, pharmacists, nurses, physiotherapists, midwives, healthcare assistants and administrators. While social care roles include care assistants, social workers, occupational therapists and counsellors. Demand for both health and social care is likely to continue to rise, so it is sure to continue to play a key role in UK society, and the demand for people to fill these vital jobs will increase.
Health and Social Care at The Abbey School aims to inspire students to consider a career in the health and social care sector. Students are encouraged to consider a range of moral and ethical dilemmas that may arise within health and social care and become independent learners in exploring possible outcomes.
This Level 3 BTEC leads onto a wide range of health and social care related undergraduate degree courses at most universities.
Course Details
The qualification consists of four units across the two years, three of which are mandatory and two externally assessed.
Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development (external)
Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care (external)
Unit 5. Meeting Individual Health and Support Needs (internal)
1 optional internally assessed unit
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Internal Assessment takes the form of two coursework units, one of which is mandatory and one of which is optional.
External Assessment consists of two exams.
Entry requirements
5 A*-C GCSEs.
Your next steps...
Students completing this Certificate can progress to University or College to study BTEC Higher Qualifications (Level 4/5). Due to the vocational nature of this qualification, at the end of year 13 students will also be equipped for some careers or apprenticeships within the health and social care sector.
