Course Summary

This qualification focuses on the development of the knowledge and skills needed to work in the Health and Science sector and prepares students to enter the sector through employment, as an Apprentice or after university studies. The two-year course has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work. Therefore, the course also includes a minimum of 315 hours in industry placement, where students will be ‘hands-on’ working in the healthcare industry.

Course Details

On completion of this Core content, learners will have knowledge and understanding in the following areas:

Working within the health and science sector

Health, safety and environmental regulations

Managing patient information and healthcare data

Principles of good scientific and clinical practice

Core science concepts including the structure of cells, tissues and large molecules, genetics, microbiology and immunology

In addition, students will complete a specialism in ‘supporting the adult nursing team’.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment consists of two externally set exams covering knowledge from the Health Course core content, one employer-set project covering knowledge and skills from the Health Course and one occupational specialism assessment that will feature a considerable practical element and is composed of a series of holistic practical tasks relating to the specialism topic they have studied.

Entry requirements

Level 5 and above in English (language or literature). Level 5 or above in Maths. Level 5-5 or above in combined science OR level 5 or above in separate sciences
