Course Summary

The new History A Level course started in September 2015 and continued to provide an interesting and broad field of study, building on the skills acquired at GCSE.

Course Details

At A Level students will study for two examination modules and one coursework module.

Each module is divided in to two parts. Students who take the AS qualification will only be examined on part one of each of the modules. A Level students will be examined on the entire content of both modules.

The two modules are as follows:
1. The Quest for Political Stability: Germany, 1871-1991
2. The Making of Modern Britain, 1951-2007

The third A Level module will comprise a personal investigation of approximately 3,000 words. The theme of this investigation will be based broadly around the topic of slavery and civil rights in the USA from 1790-1900.

History is a valuable subject for a variety of reasons. Through the study of history we learn the bases upon which our world is constructed and the motives of those who have shaped it. It also teaches us to be critical, to debate and to question; all skills which are transferable to every walk of life, every career pathway and pastime. A degree in history can lead to a career in journalism, publishing, the media, politics, teaching and management.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
