Course Summary

HISTORY AT HOMEWOOD SCHOOL AND SIXTH FORM CENTRE COVERS A 500 YEAR TIME FRAME, INCLUDING BOTH BRITISH AND NON-BRITISH UNITS. IT AIMS TO COVER A WIDE RANGE OF HISTORICAL ASPECTS INCLUDING POLITICAL, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND RELIGIOUS HISTORY.

Course Details

  • Unit 1: Y106: The Early Tudors: 1485 - 1558 (25%)
  • Unit 2: Y221: Democracy and Dictatorships in Germany 1919-1963 (15%)
  • Unit 3: Y318: Russia and its Rulers 1855–1964 (40%)
  • Unit 4: Y100: Civil Rights in the USA (coursework) (20%)

How will it be delivered and assessed?

The 3 exams will comprise of essays, source analysis, historical enquiries and use of historical interpretations. All modules will be examined at the end of the 2 year course.
In year 13 you will complete an independent piece of extended writing on one aspect of civil rights in the USA worth 20% of your grade. This course will explore the changing position of Black Americans, Native Americans and women in American Society, C. 1800 - c.1960

5 GCSE grades at 4 or above including English and History

Your next steps...

You could take this course to complement other Advanced Level courses in History which could lead onto Higher Education in History or related subjects such as English, American Studies, Politics, Law, Archaeology or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to history by seeking employment in areas of heritage such as working for a museum or within education such as a teacher. In addition history will lead to employment in the legal profession, the police, journalism and business management.
