Course Summary

This Level 2 course is ideal for anyone who has an interest in the hospitality industry. You will study this subject alongside the BTEC Level 2 Award in Travel and Tourism. If you would like to develop your skills and gain the necessary experience to pursue a career in the hospitality industry, then this qualification is for you.

You will study hospitality and catering businesses to understand the requirements to work in the industry and maintain food safety and health and safety procedures. You will take part in several events to prepare food and beverage service areas using a range of working skills with your peers. You will gain a range employability skills and knowledge to progress to Level 3, employment, or an apprenticeship.

There will be a small cost for any trips for transport or when visiting food establishments. If work experience is available, you will be required to travel to your placement, but we will endeavour to put you somewhere you can travel to.

Course Details

You will gain a broad understanding and knowledge of a vocational sector as well as investigate areas of specific interest. You will develop essential skills and attributes welcomed by employers and further education colleges. Units include:

• Introducing the Hospitality Industry (external exam in January)

• Working in the Hospitality Industry

• Food, Safety, and Health and Safety

• Food and Beverage Service in the Hospitality Industry

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment will be through written assignments and observation of practical tasks such as events, and one external exam. Students may have to take part in evening functions as part of their course, but you will be notified of this in advance.

Entry requirements

A range of 3/2 grades at GCSE.

Your next steps...

Having acquired the generic skills, you can progress into employment within a wide range of hospitality and catering businesses, apprenticeships, or progress onto the Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Hospitality.
