Application Instructions
- Level 2 Pathway - For students who still need to resit their Mathematics and English Language GCSE's to gain a Grade 4 alongside Level 2 BTECs.
- Level 3 Vocational - For students who have gained a grade 4 in their Mathematics and English Language OR English Literature.
- IBCP Programme - For students gaining 5 GCSE's at Grade 4 and above including Mathematics and English Language.
- Sports Academies (Basketball/Football) - For students wishing to pursue Sport professionally alongside their studies. The academy must be taken in addition to one of the other three pathways on offer.
Number of subjects required:
- Level 3 Pathway - Please select three Level 3 courses (BTEC or RSL)
- IBCP Pathway - Please select two IB Diploma courses and two Level 3 Vocational courses (BTEC or RSL)

Course Summary
The IB Economics course allows students to develop an understanding of the complexities and interdependence of economic activities in a rapidly changing world. At the heart of economic theory is scarcity—and owing to scarcity, choices must be made. The aims of the course are to enable students to:
• Develop a critical understanding of a range of economic theories, models, ideals and tools in the areas of microeconomics, macroeconomics and the global economy.
• Apply economic theories, models, ideas and tools, and analyse economic data to understand and engage with real-world economic issues and problems facing individuals and societies.
• Develop a conceptual understanding of individuals’ and societies’ economic choices, interactions, challenges and consequences of economic decision-making.
Course Details
The units studied are:
Unit 1—Introduction to Economics
Unit 2—Microeconomics
Unit 3—Macroeconomics
Unit 4—The global economy
During the two years students complete a controlled assessment which is comprised of three commentaries based on Units 2, 3 and 4, based on published extracts from contemporary news media, analysed using different key concepts.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
• Controlled internal assessment 30%
• External Examination: Paper 1 & Paper 2 70%
