Entry Requirements - Admissions into LAE6 are based on candidates successfully meeting our entry requirements of at least five good passes in GCSE subjects (grade 4 or above), including at least a grade 4 in Maths and English, and grade 6 or better in the subjects they wish to study.

Course Summary

Studying IB Literature provides students with a deep understanding of literary works from various cultures and time periods. It encourages critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to analyse texts in depth. Students will develop skills in writing, interpretation, and discussion, which are invaluable for both academic and personal growth.

Course Details

Part 1: Readers writers and texts

This area of study includes the investigation of how texts themselves operate as well as the contexts and complexities of production and reception. Focus is on the development of personal and critical responses to the particulars of communication.

Part 2: Time and Space

This area of study focuses on the contexts of language use and the variety of ways literary and non-literary texts might both reflect and shape

society at large.

Part 3: Intertextuality: Connecting Texts

This area of study focuses on intertextual relationships with possibilities to explore various topics, thematic concerns, generic conventions, modes or literary traditions that have been introduced throughout the course.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

External Assessment (80%)

Paper 1: Guided Textual Analysis (35%)

Analysis of non-literary passages.

Paper 2: Essay (25%)

Comparative essay on works studied.

HL Essay: (20%)

Essay on one non-literary body of work or a literary work.

Internal Assessment (20%)

Individual Oral Presentation:

Examine the ways in which the global issue of your choice is presented through the content and form of one of the works and one of the bodies of work that you have studied. One non-literary body of work and one literary work.

Ideal candidates for IB Literature are those who have a passion for reading and analysing texts. They should be open-minded, curious about different cultures and perspectives, and willing to engage in discussions. Strong writing skills and the ability to construct well-reasoned arguments are essential.


Entry requirements

Admissions into EA6 are based on candidates successfully meeting our entry requirements of at least 5 good passes in GCSE subjects (grade 4 or above). This includes achieving at least a grade 4 in Maths and English. If there are any specific grade entry requirements for this subject, they will be listed below.
