Course Summary

IBCP students will take a minimum of three courses of study. All of these will be Level 3 courses (A/AS Level equivalent). The courses will be a combination of vocational BTEC qualification (equivalent to up to 3 A Levels, approximately 10 hours of study per week) and 2 IB subjects (approx. AS level each and studied for 5 hours a fortnight). If you select this subject you must also select one BTEC in your application and one other IB subject.

Psychology is the systematic study of behaviour and mental processes. It has its roots in both the natural and social science, leading to a variety of research designs and applications. It attempts a multi-dimensional analysis of human
behaviour. Ethical concerns raised by past and present research are key considerations in IB Psychology. A student of Psychology is one who is OPEN-MINDED and INTERESTED in human behaviour and is thus ENQUIRING into
causes of behaviour, THINKS about how to predict and control behaviour, and REFLECTS upon the factors related to both social and unsocial behaviour. The very nature of the subject enables its students to get insight into their own
strengths and weaknesses of being human, by exploring those of others.
Psychology is a homework-intensive subject that requires the student to regularly write essays about a certain aspect of behaviour. These responses are expected to be approximately 1000 words each. It will benefit students to be proficient
in maths as statistical analysis constitutes a large part of the syllabus.

Course Details
