Course Summary

This course will develop your passion for and understanding of mathematics and mathematical processes, providing you with reasoning and problem solving skills that will benefit you beyond the academia of mathematics, ensuring that you become a creative thinker and life-long learner. You will enhance your logic and will explore both pure and applied aspects (statistics and mechanics), through conjectures, proofs, abstractions and more.

The course will also advance your understanding of coherence and progression and of the fascinating interconnectedness between various aspects of the subject. You will be able to recognise and discuss how many different situations can be represented mathematically and understand the relationship between ‘real-world’ problems and their mathematical models and how these can be refined and improved.

You will learn to use mathematics as an effective means of communication, and to read and comprehend mathematical arguments and articles concerning applications of mathematics.

You will acquire the skills needed to use technology, such as graphing calculators and related computer software effectively, and be aware of their limitations.

Finally, you will also be able to consider and delve into the relevance of mathematics to other related fields of study, to various career pathways, and to societies and the world around us.
