Course Summary

A-Level Mathematics is essential if you wish to study mathematics, engineering or science at University. Other University departments are also keen to recruit students who have studied mathematics at A Level, e.g. medicine, economics, geography……and many more.

Course Details

You will be encouraged to develop an awareness of the relevance of Mathematics to other fields of study, to the society around you, and the world of business, enterprise and work. You will learn to take a significant measure of responsibility towards your own mathematical development.

A Level Mathematics and A Level Further Mathematics are now linear courses. Both courses will be assessed by examination at the end of year 13. At DGSB we use the Edexcel examination board.

The A Level Mathematics course consists of two Pure mathematics modules and a combined Mechanics and Statistics module. Pure Mathematics topics you will study include algebra, trigonometry, calculus and co-ordinate geometry.

By opting for Mathematics and Further Mathematics you will study an additional two modules of pure maths and one optional module. This is ideal for anyone who wishes to study Mathematics, Physics or any other subject with a heavy mathematical content at university. It is also possible for students, who wish to go to Oxbridge or other Universities that specialise in Mathematics, to sit the AEA and STEP exams in addition to the two A levels.

How will it be delivered and assessed?
