Course Summary

This course is suitable for all instrumentalists or vocalists who have some proficiency and a passion to develop as a performer. The course broadens experience and skills in ensemble performance and will also include workshop style lessons. Any musical style is suitable to perform and the course includes training in listening and critical review. Confidence in some form of musical literacy skills is essential; students who have not achieved a Merit at Level 2 or will be required to audition for the course. Students should be creative and willing to be involved with the musical activities of the Department.Students who take this course have the opportunity to take part in a variety of course related experiences, such as school concerts, BTEC showcases and Music related school trips.

Course Details

Students will have the opportunity to develop their key skills in general, as well as sharing their enthusiasm and interests with other specialist musicians.The course covers practice in both solo and ensemble performance as well as offering opportunities for professional practice in the music industry. Students will also develop new skills in practical music theory and harmony. There will be a range of musical styles and contexts studied and explored through both presentation and delivery.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

In addition to the general entry requirements, music experience is preferable. Students who wish to take up music are encouraged to do so, but should expect to be auditioned for the course.
