Course Summary

This course is an excellent way to develop your practical music-making skills and understanding of the music and sound industry. Through a series of class and college-wide performances, you will have the opportunity to work as a solo artist and as part of an ensemble, performing music in a variety of styles. It is ideal for anyone who wishes to have a career in performing or teaching in the future.

Course Details

The focus is on developing your performance skills, music analysis, and the use of music technology. You will rehearse and perform as a solo artist and as a member of an ensemble. In addition, you will be encouraged to reflect on your methods of practising your instrument and be guided in more effective ways of improving your technique. You will also be required to organise a music event.

  • The Music Industry
  • Personal Music Profile
  • Collaborative Music Project

How will it be delivered and assessed?

There are no exams, and all assessment is through a mixture of performances, written work, and presentations.

Entry requirements

At least 4-5 GCSEs graded 9-4 including English or Maths at grade 4 or above plus a music performance qualification at grade 4 or equivalent.

Equipment required

The College does have various instruments and equipment as backups, but it is expected that you bring in your own instruments. There is no other particular need for other resources, although you may benefit from purchasing books on techniques specific to your instrument/voice. Opportunities to attend performances, workshops, and seminars will be available during the course which incur varying costs.
