General Sixth Form Entry Requirements: - Minimum 4 GCSE passes at Grade 4 and above to study BTEC or vocational courses; 5 GCSE passes at 4 and above to study A level/BTEC combination; 5 GCSE's at Grades 5 and above to study straight A Levels.

Course Summary

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Performing Arts (Dance) – Double Award is a vocational Level 3 qualification (equivalent to two A Levels) designed for post-16 learners. It offers a blend of practical performance, technical skills and theoretical study focused on dance and performing arts. The course equips learners with the creative, technical and professional competencies needed to progress to higher education or into careers in the performing arts industry.

Course Details

Learners study a combination of mandatory core units and optional units tailored to dance performance. Typical areas covered include:

Mandatory Units

Investigating Practitioners’ Work – exploring influential dance and performance practitioners.

Developing Skills and Techniques for Live Performance – improving dance technique and performance quality.

Group Performance Workshop – collaborative creation and performance.

Performing Arts in the Community – applied dance skills in community contexts.

Individual Performance Commission – independent creative performance work.

Optional Units (Dance-related)

Examples may include:

Classical Ballet Technique

Jazz Dance Technique

Contemporary Dance Technique

Choreography for Live Performance

Street Dance Technique

These units allow learners to specialise and broaden their practical skills within dance.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment is unit-based and vocationally focused. Learners will build a portfolio of evidence across:

Internal assessment – practical performances, workshops, coursework and assignments marked by tutors.

External assessment – externally set and/or marked tasks in key units as specified by Pearson.

Performance demonstrations – live and filmed dance performance work.

Assessment supports students to demonstrate practical skills, creative development, analysis and professional understanding.

Entry requirements

A minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, including English and preferably Mathematics.

A satisfactory level of dance ability or relevant performing arts experience.

A passion for performing and commitment to both practical and academic study.
