Entry Requirements - Candidates are required to obtain a minimum of 35 points from their best six GCSE subjects or equivalent (in the view of the School).

• Points will be on a 1-9 point scale, where Grade 1=1 and 2=2 etc.

• Candidates must also obtain at least a Grade 5 in English and Maths at GCSE or equivalent (in the view of the School).

Candidates must meet the specific requirements for each A Level course they wish to study as published in the 2025 Sixth Form Prospectus, which will be available on the website.

Course Summary

This course allows students an insight into human behaviours and the methods of studying them. There are key themes that are compulsory for all students to cover which include:

Social influence, memory, attachment, psychopathology and research methods. For those doing the 1 year course there is an introduction to biopsychology and approaches as well.

If you choose the 2 year pathway we will extend those topics and also teach issues and debates, as well as 3 of 9 option topics.

There is some element of maths skills involved as well in terms of being able to manipulate data, draw graphs and put numbers into equations.

The 1 year course is co-taught with the 2 year students and the extension ideas from year 1 are covered in the summer term of Year 12 post exams.

Students can continue onto a number of degree/career pathways from Psychology as it bridges the science/humanity gaps. Many students go on to do Media, physiotherapy, nursing, occupational health, speech therapy, social work, sports sciences as well as the transferable skills helping into career pathways of management, business, research and teaching.
