Course Summary

This is a two year course which will result in a single A level. This can be taken in a combination with other level 3 courses (including A level and vocational).

If taken, students will need to choose two other level 3 qualifications and will be requested to do our mandatory enrichment programme. This programme covers a range of different employment skills, other qualifications and experiences that students can use for their post 18 destinations.


Course Details

The Psychology A Level consists of 3 examined papers to be taken in Year 13. The course offers students an understanding in applying the principles and theories of psychology.

The course consists of

Paper 1 – Introductory topics in Psychology – externally assessed

Students will study the assumptions, some key concepts and research from the:

• Social approach

• Cognitive approach

• Biological approach

Paper 2 – Psychology in context – externally assessed

• Research Methods

• Issues and Debates in Society

Paper 3 – Issues and Options in Psychology – externally assessed

Students will study options in Psychology

• Relationships

• Schizophrenia

• Forensic Psychology


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Overall – External assessment = 100%

Entry requirements

GCSE English, mathematics and science are required in any combination of grades 4, 5, 5 with the new 9-1 graded GCSEs.
