Course Summary
Over 400 million people speak Spanish as their mother tongue, making it the second
most spoken language in the world and a very useful tool in an increasingly more
globalised society.
Course Details
The A Level Spanish course at NKS will allow you to explore the language not only from
a purely linguistic perspective, but also to enhance your problem-solving skills while
you become a true critical thinker.
The course covers a wide range of cultural, sociological, political and historical topics
centred on Spain and Spanish-speaking countries, such as the evolution of the family
structure, the importance of tourism, the effects of the media on popular perception or
the Spanish civil war and Franco’s dictatorship.
Alongside these topics, you will learn how to analyse in depth a Hispanic film during
your first year; while in year 13, you will take a closer look at a Spanish novel.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
The final examinations consist of three units at the end of the two year course. These units test students in the skills of speaking, listening, writing, reading and translation.
Paper 1= Listening, Reading and translation into English 40% of the qualification
Paper 2= Witten response to works and translation into Spanish 30% of the qualification
Paper 3= Speaking 30% of the qualification
