Course Summary

This specification is designed to encourage candidates to:

• Develop their interpersonal communication skills and learn to understand issues that affect personal Sport performance.

• Cover topics that link closely to specific employment areas and can work with children in the community.

• Learn about fitness testing programmes and the nutritional value of diet and performance.

• Investigate the work of successful coaches.

• Examine the roles, responsibilities and skills and techniques and knowledge base required to develop sports performance.

• Explore barriers to participation and cultural factors that affect participation.


Course Details

Students will learn about:

Extended Certificate: Unit 2 Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being, Unit 3 Professional Development in the Sports Industry and Unit 4 Sports Leadership in the first year of study. Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology will be started during Term 6 of year 1 and continued into the second year of study, along with added time for any corrections to be made to work.

Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology (26.67%)

Unit 2 Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (26.67%)

Unit 3 Professional Development in the Sports Industry (26.67%)

Unit 4 Sports Leadership (20%)


Entry requirements

Ideally, candidates would have successfully gained five passes at GCSE grade 4 or above, including the following:

• A Pass grade in Cambridge Nat Sport Science
