Course Summary

Through studying the Level 2 Diploma in Sport and Physical activity, students will acquire technical skills through vocational contexts by studying how to support a lead coach to deliver sports coaching activities and sessions. The qualification will provide the opportunity to improve organisational skills, leadership, management of people, understanding of the sporting sector and professionalism in a working environment. This will also enable students to work towards a Sports Leaders Level 2 award at the same time, enabling students to gain a nationally recognised leadership award.

Course Details

Students will learn to develop the skills required to lead sports activities, including planning, delivering and reviewing sports sessions and a sports event. Students will also develop greater knowledge of physical activity, health and physical activity, as well as develop skills to plan for and promote inclusive, equal and diverse sport and physical activities.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This course will be assessed through the completion of six internally marked units of work and two externally marked unit of work. The internal units are completed through assignments and the external unit is based on a set task that learners must complete, as well as a multiple-choice exam.

Entry requirements

Students will be expected to have achieved grades 3 or above in their GCSEs. A passion for sport and exercise is desirable.

This course can lead to careers in the sporting industry, including sports coach, sports camp leader or teaching assistant.

Students may also wish to continue their study afterwards at Westlands by taking the Level 3 Technical course in Sport & Physical Activity.
