Course Summary
This course is intended for those who want to progress directly to employment in an assistant coaching role.
It is also suitable for those wishing to progress to Higher Education, where students would have the added advantage of using it to obtain part-time employment.
This is a career-focused qualification with industry endorsement and accreditation. It enables students to develop underpinning knowledge and technical skills and to gain experience as an assistant coach.
Course Details
Each unit is related to the sporting interests of the group wherever possible and adapted to be as practical
as possible.
Units will be selected from core units and specialist units.
Some of the units are:
- Careers in the Sport and Active Leisure Industry
- Health, Wellbeing and Sport
- Developing Coaching Skills
- Applied Coaching Skills
- Sport Development
- Self-employment in Sport and Physical Activity
- Sports Injuries
- Fitness Training
- Anatomy and Physiology
- Sports Psychology
- Sports Nutrition
How will it be delivered and assessed?
This course is internally assessed through assignment work. There are no exams within this course. Students will also be expected to lead practical coaching sessions regularly to peers and external sports groups.
Entry requirements
At Least 4 GCSE’s Graded 4-9 Including English Or Maths.

Progress directly to employment in the coaching and development sector as a coach, additionally, the breadth of optional content in this qualification allows students to widen their opportunities to progress to a number of different Higher Education courses.
