Course Summary

This course is evenly balanced between practical work and academic study. Students will benefit from regular trips to the theatre and workshops from visiting professional.

Course Details

Component 1 - Drama and Theatre
Written Exam 40% - The study of Two Set Texts which are analysed both practically and theoretically. Also written analysis of a live performance.

Component 2 - Creating Original Drama
Devising 30% - Creating their own piece theatre with a practitioner’s influence and then the performance of the piece, this is supported by a written Working Notebook.

Component 3 - Making Theatre
Practical scripted 30% - The performance of 3 extracts from 3 different plays studied over the 2 years, this is supported by a written Reflective Report.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE or equivalent grades at 4 or above including English and 5 in Drama. Applicants without Drama, may be considered after an interview.

You could take this course to complement other Advanced Level courses that may be related to the performing arts, which could lead onto Higher Education within the arts or more general Higher Education courses.
