Course Summary
Open to those aged 19 and over, our nationally recognised Access courses give you the skills, knowledge and qualifications you need to go to university, or explore a change of career.
This Access course focuses on Teaching and Education. It’s perfect if you dream of becoming a teacher, educational support worker, or progressing into the wider education sector.
If you don’t have traditional entry requirements for university, everything you learn means you’ll be fast-tracked to start a degree the following September.
If you have been out of education for a while, it’s not a problem, with our small, supportive environment designed to bring yourself and other like-minded students together.
Whatever your aims or future goals, there’s no better place to start, especially with access to our HE Study Centre, a dedicated space for revision that’s exclusive to you and other Access students.
Course Details
Studying Access on the Teaching and Education pathway means you’ll be encouraged to think critically, communicate effectively, and engage with current issues in education.
In addition to exploring the world of education, you’ll also complete two extra units to further your knowledge. These two units are chosen from the following options:
• Sociology
• Psychology
• Biology
• Chemistry
• Physics
Dynamic lectures, group projects and practical sessions are designed to replicate what you would do at university, so you can discover your options early.
Taking part in these alongside like-minded students will also grow your confidence, teamwork and management skills, which are perfect for any degree.
UCAS application support is a key part of our courses, with our dedicated Careers and Support teams on hand to guide you through the process.
Whatever your next steps, all this means you’ll leave confident, focused and ready for a meaningful future.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
To test your knowledge and to ensure you’re ready for university study or a new career, assessments take place throughout the year.
You can expect to take part in a unique blend of essays, reports, presentations, timed classroom sessions and group discussions, for you to showcase your new skills and abilities.
Your next steps...
Former students have gone on to universities across the country, either studying degrees in Education such as the PGCE in Primary Teaching, or straight into employment within public or private education roles.
For Access student, Alice, studying with us has been what she needed to take her next steps:
“After my initial interview I immediately knew this was the course for me. It’s great to be in a group filled with like-minded people, who are all eager to learn. Studying this course has helped me prepare for university as we cover a broad range of topics. I feel like I’m set up well and ready to progress.”
