Course Summary

This one-year, beginner course gives small businesses or individuals the practical knowledge they need to stay safe in today’s digital world. Learn to recognise cyber threats and protect computers, data, and yourself online. This course is for those aged 19+ who are new to cyber security or want to improve their digital awareness.

Course Details

This course introduces the basics of cyber security and how to protect digital systems in practical situations.

You will learn key tools and techniques, including:

  • Strong passwords and access controls
  • Antivirus software and firewalls
  • Encryption and secure backups

You will also explore how ethical hacking can identify weaknesses before they become serious issues.

The course covers common business risks, such as data loss and cyber-attacks, and how to protect devices, networks, and sensitive information.

It also explains key UK laws and policies, including data protection and best-practice security procedures.

Your next steps...

The course will help a small business or individual build stronger defences and operate with confidence in a digital environment. Using the skills you have developed, you may look to progress into entry-level employment within the sector or continue your studies on a Level 3 computing course.
