Course Summary

This specification is designed to encourage candidates to:

Explore and develop different acting styles, script work, performance methodologies and practitioner theories, in a predominantly practical way.


Course Details

The mandatory content consists of four units covering the following content areas:

• Skills and techniques for performance (Internally Assessed)

• Group performance workshop (Externally Assessed) – skills and techniques, wider transferable skills such as being able to work collaboratively, personal management and organisation (rehearsals, time management), being able to give and take direction, confidence in front of an audience, problem solving (refining the process) and teamwork (essential when performing as a group)

• Investigating practitioner work (Externally Assessed) Controlled assessment set by Pearson, based on two practitioners that have been studied practically.

• One optional unit will be included which covers content areas either:

Classic Ballet Technique, Tap Technique, Jazz technique, Street dance technique, Contemporary Dance Technique, Improvisation and Movement in performance.

Drama and Theatre

The mandatory content consists of four units covering the following content areas:

• skills and techniques for performance (Internally Assessed)

• group performance workshop (Externally Assessed) – skills and techniques, wider transferable skills such as being able to work collaboratively, personal management and organisation (rehearsals, time management), being able to give and take direction, confidence in front of an audience, problem solving (refining the process) and teamwork (essential when performing as a group)

• investigating practitioner work (Externally Assessed) Controlled assessment set by Pearson, based on two practitioners that have been studied practically.

One optional unit will be included which covers content areas either: Acting OR Musical theatre.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

Two units each worth 25% which are exams in the summer.

In total 4 units worth 25% each (1 CA and 1 exam in year 12 and the same again in year 13)


Entry requirements

GCSE Dance grade 4 /BTEC level 2 pass or above. A BTEC level 2 Merit or higher in a Performing Arts subject. Consistent attendance at an external drama group may be considered.
