Course Summary
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 AAQ in Health and Social Care aims to provide an introduction to the sector. It is for students who are interested in learning about the health and social care sector as part of a balanced study programme. It is equivalent in size to one A Level. The qualification supports access to a range of higher education courses possibly, but not exclusively, in health and social care, if taken alongside further Level 3 qualifications.
Course Details
Students will learn about:
Unit 1 Human Lifespan Development. We will be looking at the different life stages and the milestones of growth and development. This is assessed with an external exam that lasts 1hr 30.
Unit 2 Human Biology and Health. We will be looking at cells, tissue, bone and muscle structure, and common disorders. This is assessed with an external exam that lasts 1hr 30
Unit 3 Principles of Health and Social Care Practice. This focuses on the principles that underpin meeting the care and support needs of an individual. This is assessed with a 16-hr controlled assessment
Unit 5 Promoting Health Education. Focuses on the purpose of health education, models and approaches to educating the public and encouraging behaviour changes in the population. This is assessed with a16hr controlled assessment that requires you to produce a health campaign.

Entry requirements
Grade 4 in English Language. Preferably a qualification in Health and Social Care but this is not essential.
Your next steps...
This qualification is generally taken alongside other qualifications as part of a two-year programme of learning. This will enable learners to progress to a degree programme chosen from a range of programmes in the health and social care sector.
The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by higher education institutions as contributing to meeting admission requirements to many relevant courses.
It can be taken alongside:
A-Levels in Biology and Psychology, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Nursing
A-Levels in English and History, which could lead to a BA (Hons) in Primary Education
A BTEC National Diploma in Children’s Play, Learning and Development, which could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Social Work
A BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport, which could lead to a Foundation Degree in Sports Studies and Development
