Entry Requirements: - Admission to Towers Sixth Form to study A levels or BTEC equivalent will be awarded on the basis of GCSE performance. Each subject has its own entry requirements.

A Level Geography opens up a multitude of opportunities to explore to greater depth, the Human, Physical and Environmental factors that are shaping our world today. A Level Geographers and graduates are highly sought after according to the Royal Geographical Society - those who study the subject have some of the highest rates of employment.

In the classroom:

Over two years you will study eight topics (1) Tectonic Processes and Hazards, (2) Landscape Systems, Processes and Change, (3) Globalisation: causes and consequences, (4) Shaping Places: how and why places are shaped and changed, (5) The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity , (6) The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security, (7) Superpowers: shifting economic and political power, (8) Global Development and Connections.

Four days of fieldwork:

In the physical environment e.g. investigating coastal landscapes (processes, management aspects).

In the human environment, e.g. investigating either the regeneration or the diversity of places in either urban or rural locations

Three exam paper, plus coursework:

Papers 1 / 2 hours and 15 minutes long / 30% contribution to A level qualification / Total marks 105.

Papers 2 / 2 hours and 15 minutes long / 30% contribution to A level qualification / Total marks 105.

Papers 3 / 2 hours and 15 minutes long / 20% contribution to A level qualification / Total marks 70.

Coursework (linked to your fieldwork) / Non-Examined Assessment (NEA) / Independent Investigation / 20% contribution to A level qualification / Total marks 70.

Grade 5's in Geography and English.

Further Education:

You can take your Geography A Level to the next step by completing a geography degree, whether designated BSc (Bachelor of Science) or BA (Bachelor of Arts).

Employment:

This can lead to employment in the following sectors: Cartographer, Environmental consultant, Secondary school teacher, Geographical information systems officer, Town planner, Journalist, Commercial/residential surveyor (the opportunities are endless as the degree is so versatile).
