Entry Requirements: - Generally 5 grade 5s or above in GCSE, including English and Maths but some subjects do vary.

This course is suitable for all instrumentalists or vocalists who have some proficiency and a passion for developing as a performer. The course broadens experience and skills in ensemble performance and will also include workshop-style lessons. Any musical style is suitable to perform and the course includes training in listening and critical review. Students should be creative and willing to be involved with the musical activities of the department. Students who take this course have the opportunity to take part in a variety of course-related experiences, such as school concerts, BTEC showcases and music-related school trips.

Students will have the opportunity to develop their key skills in general, as well as share their enthusiasm and interests with other specialist musicians. The course covers practice in both solo and ensemble performance as well as offering opportunities for professional practice in the music industry. Students will also develop new skills in practical music theory and harmony. There will be a range of musical styles and contexts studied and explored through both presentation and delivery.

The course is assessed via external assessment and coursework: portfolios, journals, audio and video evidence, presentations, accounts and evaluations. There is no formal written examination.

In addition to the general requirements for access to Level 3 courses, music experience is preferable. Students who have not achieved a Merit at Level 2 will be required to audition for the course.

This course is for any instrumentalist or singer who wishes to develop their performing skills to a high level, perhaps with a view to a career in the music industry. The qualification is now widely recognised by Higher Education establishments offering degrees, diplomas and professional training programmes.
