Course Summary

Two-year course which will result in a single level 3 vocational course (equivalent to one A- Level).

Four units. Three are mandatory and then choose one between four external units

Should be taken with other level 3 courses including A levels or vocational courses.

Supports progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals, or A Levels

The programme gives a broad overview of the sector, with a focus on performance, including musical skills development and professional practice


Course Details

There are 7 Units across the two years. The three mandatory units are :

Ensemble Music Performance

Professional Practice in the Music Industry

Practical Music Theory and Harmony

You then choose between:

Composing Music

Music Performance Session Styles

Solo Performance

Improvising Music


How will it be delivered and assessed?

42% internal assessment (coursework) 58% external assessment (examination)

Entry requirements

No prior study of the sector is needed, but learners should have a range of achievement at level 2, in GCSEs (5 GCSE’s at a grade 4 or higher), or equivalent qualifications.
