Course Summary

This qualification is an Alternative Academic Qualification (AAQ), which means it is the equivalent of one A level. It should be chosen alongside two other subjects (either A level or vocational) in order to form a full programme of study.

Course Details

The Pearson Level 3 Alternative Academic Qualification BTEC National in Information Technology (Extended Certificate) allows students to study the fundamental knowledge of Information Technology covering the role and implications of using Information Technology systems and cyber-security threats and how to manage attacks. Students will also develop important skills for creating websites to meet a specific purpose and to manage data through the development of a relational database solution.

Unit 1: Information Technology Systems

Unit 2: Cyber Security and Incident Management

Unit 3: Website Development

Unit 4: Relational Database Development

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Units 1 and 2 are externally assessed (examinations). Units 3 and 4 are internally assessed (coursework).

Entry requirements

Grade 4 in English and IT qualification desired at a grade 4/Level 2 Pass.

Your next steps...

The qualification is designed to be taken alongside A Levels as part of a study programme and can link to learning in A Level Mathematics and A Level Business Studies. It is intended for students that wish to progress into higher education (university) as a pathway to employment, or for work-based training such as apprenticeships.
