About us

We are a specialist post-16 education provision, providing Supported Employment routes, whilst progressing both English and Maths qualifications.

We are people with and without learning disabilities and/or autistic people, working and learning together. Whether it’s to be seen working, be heard campaigning or belong to a friendly group of people, people achieve their goals with bemix.

Supported Employment helps 16-24 year olds with an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan to make the journey from education into employment. We have a two-year programme or a one-year programme of support for young people who are supported on their individual journey, every step of the way.

Preparation for Employment programme - This one-year programme works closely with you to build up your confidence and work-related skills before your Supported Internship year or other destination.
If you need a little more support to prepare for the world of work after school or college, this is the programme for you.

Join this programme to develop skills in Maths and English, and skills that prepare you for life and the world of work. You will also spend time in work experience placements.

We work with you to help you prepare for the world of work through enterprise activities, work experience, employer visits, functional skills and more.

We will support you through your personal development to identify what you want to learn. For example, building your confidence, work-related skills, and identifying what career paths you want to focus on.

This is a pre-internship year and is suitable for you if you need more support to prepare for the working environment before going onto the Supported Internship year.

Supported Internship programme.  This is a one-year programme that supports you as an individual to learn and train in your placement role within a workplace setting that is job-matched to your interests. We work with you in your work placement to support and grow your independence and employability skills.

Our Supported Internships work for young people who learn best when doing. We will help you find a placement that suits you, paying attention to your goals and aspirations.

You will continue to develop skills in Maths and English and workplace skills, with the ultimate goal of helping you to achieve paid employment at the end of this programme.

You can join after school or college, or after the Preparation for Employment year. With support from your dedicated Supported Employment Specialist, you will learn and train within the placement role.

Supported Internships help you grow your confidence and find paid work doing something you enjoy.

Student support

We have very small class sizes of 8-12 students, that are supported by a Teacher and a Teaching Assistant.

Whilst in your work placement, you are supported individually by your Supported Employment Specialist who will stay with you throughout the year( Onsite, full-time to begin with). This support will slowly reduce as your confidence and independence grows.

What makes us different?

We are a Kent-based, specialist post-16 education organisation with charitable status and have specialised in this space for over 25 years.

We support people with learning disabilities and Autistic people to become more independent and confident, and we actively encourage people to hear, respect and empower people as equals.

We promote positive action to challenge negative attitudes about neurodiversity.

We work with local communities so that people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people become fully included and no longer segregated in society.

Transport

Should you require support in travelling, your Specialist may also provide travel training to enable you to get to and from your work placement. We can also support you in applying for your free bus pass and reduced-cost railcards.
