About us
Welcome to Bennett Memorial Diocesan School
The Bennett sixth form is built upon success. Bennett students achieve excellent A level results with a large proportion achieving A*-B grades, in challenging academic subjects. This happens because of the school’s strong shared ethos and values, our absolute belief in the potential of every single student to achieve, our expectations of hard work, commitment and tenacity, outstanding teaching and pastoral care. Those students aiming for high grades at A level achieve them and go on to secure places on courses at the most prestigious universities. Bennett is also an inclusive sixth form, offering the widest range of A level courses locally, which meets the needs of a full range of interests and aspirations.
About us
The Bennett sixth form provides outstanding teaching. Our 2012 Ofsted inspection said that “teaching is highly effective... Teachers have excellent subject knowledge and lessons are characterised by a range of carefully selected activities that accelerate and deepen learning.”
Support for students in the sixth form goes the extra mile. We have a dedicated team of sixth form advisors, a full-time school chaplain and a school nurse. This wrap-around approach is characterised by intensive one-to-one preparation for university application and a strong record of year-on-year success in enabling students to secure places at Oxford, Cambridge, Russell Group and other highly regarded universities.
Bennett students are given outstanding opportunities and are challenged to achieve beyond expectation, not only in their studies, but also in a huge range of co-curricular activities including the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, where significant numbers of students each year achieve the Gold Award. A full programme of school visits includes expeditions to a range of developing countries, as well as sports and music trips, and of course a programme of study visits.
Sixth formers take a lead in our school life, developing a wide range of interpersonal skills. Our recent inspection noted the impact of this on our students: “Sixth formers are wonderful role models for younger students and excellent ambassadors for the school.”
