Student support

Pastoral care is paramount to the success of students and the individual student support and safeguarding at KS5, ensures that students are confident to engage with the challenges and opportunities Sixth Form brings. We develop our students to be community minded and students enthusiastically engage with events within the school and the wider community.

Hillview Sixth Form is supported by a dedicated Student Support Manager and we continue Personal Development Learning sessions throughout Year 12 and Year 13 to ensure all our students continue to receive emotional, social and organisational guidance throughout their two years of study.

What makes us different?

Our Performing and Visual Arts specialism is a corner stone of what makes Hillview the creative and dynamic place it is. We work with students to ‘industry specialism standards’ across all disciplines. We currently hold Arts Mark Platinum and have held the highest level of this award from its first introduction seventeen years ago. This is testament to the quality of the Performing and Visual Arts at Hillview. We offer an outstanding range of inclusive curricular and extra-curricular provision across all art forms. This is taught and led by highly skilled and dedicated staff, who boast a range of specialisms and excellent links with creative professionals in the industry and the local community.

Our assessed curriculum and wider super-curriculum provide our students with countless opportunities to develop a wide range of skills within Performing Arts, Production Arts and Arts Administration. We are extremely proud of being able to offer a wide range of arts course in the Sixth Form including A Levels in: Art, Dance, Drama, Graphic Design, Music, Music Technology, Photography and Textiles and Performing Arts BTEC.

Our specialist curriculum offers Hillview students much more than just academic success. Feedback from industry tells us that qualifications alone do not prepare students to enter into the work place. Great importance is also placed on industry standard experiences and a holistic understanding of the performing and visual arts sector. Our curriculum aims to take an innovative approach to teaching and learning, involving enterprise projects and close associations with employers. This curriculum offers qualifications which are endorsed and valued by the employment community and Higher Education. The focus is firmly on equipping young people not only with key qualifications, but also with the broad range of employability and life skills they need for a sustained career with the option to continue their studies in Higher Education.
