Sixth Form/College Courses

About us

Leigh Academy Longfield (formerly Longfield Academy) sixth form has been recognised by Ofsted to be ‘Outstanding’ on two consecutive inspections (June 2018 and September 2023).

The academy boasts an exceptional sixth form where students are allowed to thrive through our wide range of academic and vocational courses; including new T-Level options. Students also enjoy a wide range of enrichment opportunities in an inclusive, supportive environment that helps to prepare them for their next steps.

"Students in the sixth form receive an exceptionally strong education. They are very well prepared for their next steps. Students enjoy a broad, well-considered enrichment programme and are very positive about their experience here." (Ofsted 2023)

Our recent Ofsted report recognises that leaders of the academy are highly ambitious for all of the students but also that they do not limit that ambition to the outcomes of public examinations: preparing our students for life is equally important to everyone at the academy.

What makes us different?

As part of our personal development programme, students enjoy a plethora of enrichment opportunities at various points during the year. This includes a wide range of trips and visits, including the opportunity to attend residential trips when these arise. These have included:

  • The Duke of Edinburgh Award
  • Drama and musical productions
  • Trips and visits related to the curriculum (e.g. film studies trip to Harry Potter Studios)
  • University taster days & UCAS experiences
  • Team building days (e.g. to local escape rooms)
  • Mentoring programmes
  • Volunteering opportunities

"The school offers extracurricular clubs which develop pupils’ talents and interests well…. Sixth-form students are exceptionally mature, acting as role models for younger pupils." (Ofsted 2023)

Our key strength however is the students themselves. When students join Longfield, they feel that they become part of a tight knit community, they make a diversity of friends and trust their teachers to help them succeed. The kindness and diligence of our students motivates us to work our hardest. Together, we drive each other to succeed.
