About us

St Simon Stock Catholic School is a mixed 11-19 Catholic school in a selective authority, located on a pleasant campus in Maidstone, Kent. We welcome students of all levels of ability and our mission is that all our students, guided by Gospel values, achieve their full potential within the Christian context of service to others. Our primary aim is that all our students are happy, feel safe and support each other. We believe passionately that students who feel happy, secure and cared for will learn well.

We have high expectations of each individual student, and each year students of all abilities make significant progress, attaining the highest standards in their public examinations. Progress at GCSE & Sixth Form have been consistently high across a number of years.

Transport

The nearest train station is Maidstone West Station, just 1 mile from our location and approximately 20min walk.

Maidstone town centre is served by 3 southeastern train stations; Maidstone West, Maidstone Barracks and Maidstone East, all of which are within walking distance and with stops for local bus services.

Local bus service stops are located on Queen's Road, London Road (A20) and Tonbridge Road (A26), providing routes to and from Maidstone town centre. The bus stops on Tonbridge Road and London Road are approximately a 12-minute walk away, while the bus stop on Queen's Road is approximately 5-minute walk.

Local bus services are run by Arriva, Nu-Venture and Stagecoach, all of whom have a free app for planning journeys and tracking buses.

I took a rather peculiar combination of A-level subjects of History, Biology and Creative Media, which interestingly interwove very well into each other as I took skills from each subject to bolster my abilities overall. I continue to use skills from Biology and Creative media in my History and Politics course at the University of Warwick. i.e. The analytical/critical skills I absorbed in my Biology A-level I use now to examine historical primary sources or its the films I was introduced in my Creative media course opened up a new lens on particular historical periods.

The teachers at Stocky are constantly gave me feedback on what areas I may need to improve on and gave out resources to help with those particular areas. Due to personal health reasons, I fell behind in my subjects however the teachers at stocky where always willing to extend a helping hand and I was able to get back on track in no time.

Going into A levels I was unsure of what sort of job I was aiming for, knowing that I decided that I had an interest in veterinary so I decided to take chemistry, biology and geography under the presumption I would take veterinary science. Through A levels and having a job in a clinic a realised this wasn’t the sort of path I wanted to take so the A levels ended up being the opposite of the career path I decided which was motorsport engineering. Despite the fact that I had the wrong A levels I looked through all of my options and with the help of Stocky, I managed to find an amazing opportunity at Oxford Brooke’s university. I’m currently studying engineering foundation year which leads to motorsport engineering. I’m currently joining Oxfordshire Brooke’s racing team which are run by students competing in Europe and achieving top 3 for the last couple years. My journey shows that no matter what A levels you take you can still find opportunities to achieve the course you want to follow.

I'm currently a Law student at the University West of England, Bristol (UWE). To get there, I studied Chemistry, Biology and Psychology for my A Levels. My teachers were brilliant in that they tailored their advice and mentoring to compliment my learning style and way of understanding. I could feel that they genuinely cared about my success and development as an individual. This meant I had more time for my extracurriculars such as Prefect duties and sports, which were as rewarding as they were useful - teaching me applicable skills I use in my degree now. When I think back to my time at Stocky, I'm very grateful for their care and impactful support of my growth.
