About us

Welcome to The Sittingbourne School Sixth Form, where we offer a broad and challenging programme of study to all our students, whether they are looking for an academic, vocational or work ready pathway to their future.

We have a dedicated sixth form area for our students, offering extensive IT facilities and canteen , performing arts and recording studios, a specialised equipped engineering workshop and sports facilities.

Students are extremely well supported through their studies in our sixth form and are offered a wide range of events and activities to support their progression plans into higher education, apprenticeships or employment. Much of this is covered within our Thrive (Character Education) and Personal Development Tutor programme.

Entry Requirements: Our general entry requirements are:-

• A Levels – advanced courses, two year study programme, with an average entry requirement of at least five grade 5+ qualifications, including English and mathematics. Some subjects may have additional entry requirements.

• BTEC Level 3 – advanced courses, two year study programme, with an average entry requirement of at least five grade 4+ qualifications, including English and mathematics. Some subjects may have additional entry requirements.

• T Level - technical course, two year study programme, with an average entry requirement of at least five grade 5+ qualifications, including English and mathematics.

• BTEC Level 2 – One year programme, which could lead on to further studies, with an average entry requirement at least five grade 2 or above, including English and mathematics.

Alongside our curriculum and facilities, students also have a range of tailored enrichment opportunities to develop character, confidence and employability skills. We are proud to offer a thriving ambassador programme and an exciting range of trips each year such as Business and Finance trips to London, Tate Britain for Fine Art and many more.

Additional information

When considering which courses you will apply for, make sure you are looking at the right level of study for you.

We have three pathways available to students: 

  • Level 3 - A Levels and Vocational courses 
  • Level 3 - T Level in Engineering 
  • Level 2 - a choice of Health and Social Care or Sport, combined with Employability and any necessary retakes in English Language and Mathematics  

If you are applying for a A Levels and Vocational courses AT Level 3, you need to select three single subjects, or a double and a single subject.  Engineering is a full time course and cannot be combined with any other subjects.

You cannot mix Level 3 and Level 2 subjects, but you can mix A Levels and Level 3 vocational subjects (except Engineering).

My name is Ava, I study Criminology, Health and Social Care and Psychology. Serving as Executive Prefect in the Sixth Form has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my time at the school. Joining the Sixth Form has shown me what our community truly stands for. The Sittingbourne School goes far beyond teaching from a curriculum; it relentlessly pushes us to succeed, discover our unique identities and find our voices as we consider the wider impact we want to make on the world.

For me, that personal impact became clear through the subjects I chose to study. My classes sparked a genuine passion for understanding human behavior, fueling my ambition to study Psychology at the University of Kent on my journey toward becoming a Forensic Psychologist. Serving in the leadership team has taught me to listen actively, lead with empathy, and support those around me—skills that complement my academic path. My name is Emily, I study Health and Social Care and Sports Studies. My time in the Sixth Form has been a genuinely rewarding experience. Stepping up from GCSEs can feel like a big leap at first, but being surrounded by supportive teachers and encouraging peers makes a world of difference. Sixth Form has given me greater independence, confidence, and organisation—helping me grow both as a student and as a person.

The best part of Sixth Form is having the freedom to focus entirely on what you love. Studying Sport at a deeper level showed me just how much more there is to learn beyond playing the game, while Health and Social Care offered fascinating insights into physical, mental, and social wellbeing. Together, these subjects have laid the exact foundation I need to study Physical Education and Sports and Exercise Science at Canterbury Christ Church University on my path to becoming a PE teacher. The Sixth Form team and teachers truly give their all to help every student achieve their goals, and I hope this guide helps you find the subjects that inspire your own future.
