This occupation is found in both the new build and refurbishment construction sector. The construction industry is central to creating the homes, schools, hospitals, energy and transport infrastructure society needs. There is growing demand for carpenters and joiners to help meet the need for the transition to modern methods of construction and sustainability.

The broad purpose of the occupation is working with wood-based materials and associated products to create and install building components. This typically involves shaping and cutting materials, installing finished materials like partitions, doors, staircases, window frames, mouldings, timber floor coverings and erecting structural components such as floor joists and roofs. All work needs to be carried out safely, using the appropriate tools and to the quality specified.

A Carpentry & Joinery Apprenticeship is the ideal way to develop the practical skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in the construction industry. Working alongside experienced professionals, you'll learn the full range of site carpentry and bench joinery techniques - from first and second fix on residential and commercial projects through to crafting doors, windows and staircases to a professional finish.

Training can be delivered in a variety of ways to meet the needs of both the employer and apprentice, including:

• One day per week at our training centre (day release)
• Block release, where apprentices attend training for a number of consecutive days at agreed intervals
• Training delivered at the employer's premises where appropriate

Throughout the programme, apprentices will receive support from an experienced trainer, who will carry out regular workplace reviews and provide guidance to help them develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the apprenticeship standard.

Apprentices will complete practical training, build a portfolio of evidence, and prepare for their End-Point Assessment.

Apprentices must secure an employer that is willing to support them through the apprenticeship and provide a role that aligns with the apprenticeship. English and maths qualifications must be completed in line with the apprenticeship funding rules.
