Course Summary
Computer Science builds heavily on the programming skills / theory from GCSE and you will learn many new programming principles and techniques for developing applications, with Microsoft Visual C# as the primary language. This course, with its emphasis on abstract thinking, general problem solving, algorithmic and mathematical reasoning, scientific and engineering-based thinking, is a solid foundation for further study and employment. Consider that increasingly there are very few jobs that do not involve the use of computers.
This is an expansive and tough course that will look into processing and programming techniques covering all sorts of languages and coding paradigms. The advanced systems development module looks at the architecture of the computer and how each component functions. The second year of the course focuses much more on the inner working of the computer and looks at operating system design and concepts. You will be expected to document all areas of your coursework. There are two theory exams at the end covering a wide array of concepts.
