Course Summary
A Level Dance is a dynamic qualification which encourages students to develop their creative and intellectual capacity, alongside transferable skills such as team working, communication and problem solving. All of these are sought after skills by higher education and employers and will help them stand out in the workplace whatever their choice of career. This A Level reflects both historical and current dance practices, making it more relevant, and inspires a lifelong passion and appreciation for dance. A Level Dance provides you with the opportunity to acquire experience of performance and choreography and to engage in critical thinking about dance. The focus for this course is on solo choreography, performance of own choreography, performance within a duo/trio, training, technique and health and safety of the dancer and analysis of choreography and performance within professional repertoire. Dance helps you develop a number of skills, such as balanced judgement, information gathering and assessment, ability to work on your own or as part of a team and effective communication skills. The course is suitable for anyone wanting to pursue the arts or dance in higher education or as support for any course requiring good communication and group work skills. In addition to performing, choreographing and teaching, this course might lead to such diverse careers as movement therapy or journalism. You must have at least a Grade B at GCSE or equivalent in order to study A Level Dance and you should attend regular dance classes.
