Course Summary
A Level Mathematics is a challenging, stimulating and rewarding subject that develops students' ability to reason logically, solve complex problems and apply mathematical ideas to real-world situations. The course builds on the knowledge and skills developed at GCSE and introduces new areas of mathematics, including calculus, advanced algebra, statistical modelling and mechanics.
Throughout the course, students develop three key mathematical skills: mathematical argument, problem-solving and mathematical modelling. Students learn not only how to carry out mathematical techniques, but also how to select appropriate methods, construct rigorous arguments and interpret their answers in context.
A Level Mathematics is particularly suited to students who enjoy solving problems, are confident working with algebra and are prepared to persevere with challenging and unfamiliar questions. Students should expect the subject to be significantly more demanding than GCSE Mathematics and should be willing to practice regularly and independently.
