This course is suitable for students who are interested in pursuing Mathematics, Engineering, Teaching, IT, Data Analysis or Accountancy at University. A Level Mathematics is particularly beneficial for students who prefer to study a STEM subject at University. The analytical, logical and problem solving skills acquired through this course provide an excellent opportunity for higher earnings and exciting careers.

Course Details

Why this course?
Studying Mathematics at A Level will develop key employability skills such as problem-solving, logical reasoning, communication, deeper thinking and resilience. Students’ knowledge and understanding of mathematical techniques and their applications will increase which will in turn provide excellent preparation for a wide range of university courses and lead to a versatile qualification that is well-respected by employers. It is the most popular A Level in the country.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

Assessment consists of 3 externally assessed papers:
• Pure Mathematics 1
• Pure Mathematics 2
• Statistics and Mechanics
The content of the AS Level will be a sub-set of the A Level, but marks achieved in the AS will not count towards the A Level. Each exam paper is worth 100 marks and is a 2-hour written examination.
Paper 1 and Paper 2 may contain questions on any topics from the Pure Mathematics content.
Paper 3 will have questions from Statistics content in Section A and Mechanics content in Section B.

Entry requirements

GENERIC A LEVEL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: 5 GCSE'S 4-9, including English Language

SUBJECT SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Grade 7 in GCSE Maths. External students must pass internal assessment.
