Course Summary

If your heart is set on studying A-Levels and would like an environment that is different from the traditional school environment, then A-Levels at MidKent College could be your perfect next step. Based at our Sixth Form Centre in Maidstone, you will be taught by specialist lecturers who will support you to gain the qualifications, skills and confidence to progress to university-level study, an apprenticeship, or into employment. You will study three A-Levels over a two-year period. Please confirm your preferred A-Level subjects through the application process. Media (Awarding Body: Eduqas) A-Level Media Studies is a vast and eclectic subject area which includes studying a range of different media disciplines. The media play a central role in contemporary culture, society and politics. They shape our perceptions of the world through the representations, ideas and points of view they offer. The media have real relevance and importance in our lives today, providing us with ways to communicate, with forms of cultural expression and the ability to participate in key aspects of society. The course offers students the opportunity to develop a thorough and in depth understanding of these key issues, using a comprehensive theoretical framework and a variety of advanced theoretical approaches and theories to support critical exploration and reflection, analysis and debate. You will be assessed through 2 exams covering a range of media products including Advertising and Marketing, Music Video, Newspapers, Film Industry, Radio, Games Industry, TV, Magazines and online media (70% of qualification). You will also produce a cross media production to include a music video, tour poster and interview with the artist in a double page spread (30% of qualification). This is an exciting and stimulating course that combines theory and practice, developing your skills in communication, teamwork and critical thinking, as well as camera skills and editing.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades 4 and above including English and Maths.
