Course Summary
A level physics is a course that is ideal for those students interested in the physical world, engineering and maths and allows a clear progression onto higher education and employment. This course covers some of the key concepts in physics, whilst practical skills are embedded throughout the content of the specification and through required practicals. As learners progress through the course they will build on their knowledge of the laws of physics, applying their understanding to areas from subatomic particles to the entire universe.
Course Details
The course is split into six modules:
Module 1: The development of practical skills in physics (practical endorsement)
Module 2: The foundations of physics (physical quantities, making measurements and analysing data)
Module 3: Forces and motion (motion, work, energy, power, materials and momentum)
Module 4: Electrons, waves and photons (Electrical circuit design, waves and quantum theory)
Module 5: The Newtonian world and astrophysics (Thermal energy control, circular motion, orbits, astrophysics and cosmology)
Module 6: Particles and medical physics (Electric fields, electromagnetism, nuclear and particle physics, plus medical imaging)
Entry requirements
Grade 6 in Physics or grade 66 in combined science and grade 6 in maths.
