Please add three Level 3 courses to your application. These can be a combination of A-Levels, BTEC AAQs or BTEC Extended Certificates. Core Maths must be an additional fourth subject.


Course Summary

Interested in how businesses and organisations make financial decisions? This course helps you understand the numbers behind those decisions and how financial information is used in the real world.

You will learn to interpret, analyse and evaluate financial information, then use evidence to explain your conclusions and make recommendations.

It is a Level 3 qualification designed to support progression to further study, training and apprenticeships in accounting, finance and related areas.


Course Details

You will explore five main areas of accounting and finance:

• Understanding financial and accounting information and what it tells us.

• Analysing how well an organisation is performing financially.

• Using financial information to support decisions.

• Exploring ethics, regulation and responsible financial practice.

• Communicating financial information clearly to different audiences.


Examples of topics include:

• Financial statements, cash flow and budgets.

• Profitability, liquidity and other financial ratios.

• Costs, contribution and break-even.

• Payback period and simple rate of return.

• Accounting concepts such as accruals, prudence and going concern.

• Ethics, governance and internal controls.

• Spreadsheets, digital accounting systems, cyber security and the role of AI.


How will it be delivered and assessed?

• 40% examination.

• 60% non-exam assessment (NEA).

Examinations are taken in the May/June series in the year you complete the qualification.


Entry requirements

Grade 4 or above at Maths GCSE.
