Course Summary

This course is designed to provide high quality, employment-related learning with a focus on the Animal Care sector. Students considering this course should have an interest in working with animals in the future. During the course, you will develop your subject knowledge and employability skills, as well as practical skills related to the care and management of animals including mammalian, avian, invertebrate and reptilian species.

Course Details

You will cover many aspects of the care and management of animals including animal science, behavior and husbandry. There will be an opportunity to learn skills such as animal first aid as well as developing your knowledge of Biology.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

You will be assessed on your skills during the course and develop a portfolio evidencing what you have achieved. You will also study Biology, and research and presentation skills.

Entry requirements

A selection of grade 3s and 2s in your GCSE subjects.

Equipment required

There will be trips during the course that you will be expected to go on, including places such as zoos and animal rescue centres. You will need to contribute to transport and pay entry fees if applicable.

Your next steps...

If you choose to carry on with your study of animals, you can then apply for a place on a related Level 3 qualification – for example the T Level in Animal Care and Management or the BTEC Extended Certificate in Animal Management.
