Course Summary
Animal Management covers a range of topics surrounding the health, care and welfare of a wide range of animals. There are many career paths in the Animal Management sector including Animal Care Assistants, Veterinary Nursing, Zoo/Wildlife Keeping, Livestock Handling and Animal Rescue, and this qualification will provide a range of skills and knowledge to support progression into the industry.
If you have a love of animals and are considering an animal related career, this level 3 Animal Management qualification supports access into careers within the sector. It will also assist with progression to higher level Animal Management qualifications and Apprenticeships. This qualification is equivalent to 1 ½ A Levels.
Course Details
The course has 7 units in total. 6 of these are mandatory units with 1 optional unit selected. 2 of the units are assessed externally.
The mandatory units are:
• Animal Biology (Externally assessed – exam paper)
• Animal Welfare and Ethics (Externally assessed – Synoptic assessment)
• Practical Animal Husbandry
• Animal Behaviour
• Animal Health and Diseases
• Work Experience in the Animal Sector
• Farm Livestock Husbandry (Optional Unit)
The course is a combination of theory and practical work. There are a wide range of practical elements within the course with plenty of hands on experience to be gained with the animals on the farm. Boots, overalls and other PPE will be provided for practical work on the farm.
There is a requirement to complete work experience externally and students will be assisted with finding suitable placements in industry.
How will it be delivered and assessed?
Assessment is through a combination of coursework, externally set and assessed assignment and externally set and assessed examination
Entry requirements
Students will require a minimum of five A*-C / 9-4 grades at GCSE, including English Language and Science at level 4. Level 2 Animal Care is desirable but not essential. .
