Course Summary

Applied Science is extremely useful for a range of careers, in a variety of different sectors within the science profession. The course will suit many students as the pathway after completion of the course can take many routes including university, apprenticeships or straight into work. The specification complements other Post 16 courses, such as Psychology and Geography. There are both coursework and exam-based elements, with some extended writing.

Extended Certificate (2-year course) - Equivalent in size to one A Level

Unit 1: Principles and Applications of Biology (Exam)

Unit 2: Principles and Applications of Chemistry (Exam)

Unit 3: Principles and Applications of Physics (Exam)

Unit 4: Practical Scientific Procedures and Techniques (Coursework)

Unit 5: Science Investigation Skills (Coursework)

OR

Unit 6: Contemporary Issues in Science (Coursework)


How will it be delivered and assessed?

This AAQ Extended Certificate qualification is equivalent in size to 1 A level and has been designed as part of a two year programme.

Entry requirements

To be accepted onto the course a student should have at least a grade 5 in Science, English and Maths. including English. Level 2 Science or equivalent is not essential but preferred. Essay writing skills are also desirable. Students are expected to have a wider interest in Science.
