Course Summary

This is a two year course.

Year 1
This course is for students who have successfully completed a GCSE course in Fine Art that has given them drawing and painting skills to the level of C or above. Emphasis is placed on the development of their work from initial studies to large expressive pieces that have figurative starting points. It is expected that students will work independently in their own studio space when not in a taught lesson, this is essential for the highest grades

Year 2
Students will produce work that shows observational,
research, and developmental skills through a range of
media and different approaches.
This course is for those students who have successfully completed the AS course in Fine Art and shown that they
have drawing and painting skills of a high order. Students will also have to
research and explore Fine Art through the use of ICT.

Enrichment: There is a regular life class for both staff and students that will greatly enrich their portfolio work.

How will it be delivered and assessed?

This is a two year course. 60% exam and 40% coursework.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade C or higher including Fine Art.

Your next steps...

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education, BTEC Higher Nationals or NVQ Levels 3 and 4 in areas of art and design, photography, architecture or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to art and design such as an Architect, Interior or Fashion Designer. The course will also encourage you to explore your creative mind and help you develop the basic skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
