Course Summary
This is a two year course. students follow the OCR specification which is challenging but very interesting. If you have an interest in the past and have an enquiring mind, history is the subject for you. Students are able to study significant events, individuals and issues from the 15th, 16th and 20th centuries
Year 1
Units 1&2 for the AS level course are assessed by examination (unit 1 source-based and unit 2 essay questions)
Year 2
Unit 3 for A2 is completed as a historical investigation and unit 4 is a written examination, two hours duration
Students will study:
Churchill 1920-1945: Including his reactions to the problems of post-war Britain; his views on imperial and foreign policy; his reputation as a great wartime politician and his international diplomacy during the Second World War
The Cold War in Europe 1945-1960's: Including origins and development; the role of Germany; The Soviet Union's control of eastern Europe; the end of the war; and the collapse of the Soviet Union
Nazi Germany 1933-1945: Including the nature of Nazi government, its impact on Germany and the extent of the social revolution it brought about; its racial aims and policies, the nature and extent of opposition to the regime.
Rebellion and Disorder under the Tudors 1485-1603: Including the nature and extent of rebellion and disorder in England and Ireland; the study of specific revolts and rebellions, including pilgrimage of Grace, Kett and Essex.
Entry requirements
4 - 5 GCSEs at grade C or above in different subjects. English should be one of these

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in History or related subjects such as English, American Studies, Politics , Archaeology or more general courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to history by seeking employment in areas of heritage such as working for a museum or within education such as a teacher. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
